VBS from a Youth Pastor’s Point of View Day 3

Another day of VBS and another day of hundreds of kids. I was in the back watching the opening session and it was great to see how the theater was utilized. Lucas, Jeremy, Michael and Travis get major props in my book, it was really an irresistible environment. I think the kids are getting a lot out of the program and I’m hoping to see the energy trickle into this upcoming year of children’s programming.
I’ve been spending some good time bonding with the students and I overheard some of them talking what they were getting from the experience. Some mentioned that they loved this and others weren’t sure if working with kids was for them. None of this is bad, all it shows is that there should be more serving opportunities for students in a church setting. We can get a little too focused on community service and children’s ministry when it comes to involving teens which can limit their potential. With Student Impact we want to help students find that place where they not only go deeper in their relationship with God but utilize the gifts and talents He’s given them.
