Retreats and Camps

Tomorrow I head out once again for Ohio and Franciscan University for the 2nd Confirmation retreat. I’m looking forward to it considering the last one was such a great experience. I’m also looking forward to it because after this weekend we will be matching up student’s with their mentors and heading forward with preparation.
Most people ask why we never plan our own retreat for Confirmation and to tell you the truth it’s a lot of work and with what the students get at Steubenville it’s hard to match that. But one thing I would like to see Nativity develop over the next few years are camps that help 4th grade students transition into Ascent, 6th grade students transition into Resurrection, 8th grade into Uprising and Seniors in high school into college. That’s 4 camps/retreats on top of the Confirmation retreat. That’s 5 weekends (6 if we do two retreats), and who knows how many kids, resources, etc. On top of that, we need a team who plans these things, coordinates them, and then a way of keeping cost down.
When we finally get a plan together it’ll probably start with a 4th grade class and follow them until they graduate high school, in that way we can begin this in a smooth process. So if you like to plan camps or retreats, let me know, this could be a lot of fun, but until then I don’t plan on giving up 5-6 weekends of my summer on top of all the fall planning we have to do.
