A New Perspective

Last night I went down to Severn to check out a friend’s youth ministry. They call their ministry the Verb, it meets on Wednesdays and overall it was a fun night. The set-up to their worship is similar to what we do, there’s music, message and activity. It was the first time I’ve been to another church’s ministry program in Maryland and I thought to myself, “I should do this more.” Even though our programs are similar I learned a lot by viewing a youth ministry program from an outside perspective. It also made me realize how much I miss having our youth ministry on a weekly basis. In fact I was working on a project with a few students yesterday and I felt good seeing them and talking with them, I want to do that more. Breaks are good if you are a ministry leader but I don’t know how good they are for the students. If are ministry is about consistency and authenticity who needs a break from that?
But, I’m not naive. In order to go year round we’ll need more ministers and better scheduling so that we stay fresh and we don’t get worn out.
