Last night I spoke to college students at Loyola about the struggles with Christian Identity. It was interesting to be there because it felt as if I hadn’t been on a college campus since I graduated. Brought back a lot of great memories and I have to say the group that I spoke to was just great to be around. But it did bring up that question I know many churches struggle with, which is “How are we reaching out to college students?” And the answer for our church is we aren’t…at least not intentionally. We have college students who attend but there isn’t a ministry that makes sure that they are being fed. I think that happens for two reasons:
1. Most colleges have a campus ministry; therefore, why do we need to get involved?
2. Besides “Theology on Tap” how are we supposed to draw them to church?
I know speaking one night isn’t going to do it, but I’m going to have to start networking and building relationships with some of these campus ministries and para churches that affect our college campuses. I know it has something to do with partnering and not competing. Because in the end I think we all want the same thing for our students and that’s to walk with the Lord.
