Vacation Bible School has been fun to scope out and it’s been nice getting to know the teens better. Of course I’ve been bribing my way into conversations through ice pops, munchkins, frappuccinos and so on, but it’s been great nonetheless. It’s given me the ability to talk up the Facebook page and twitter account (I learned teens don’t twitter…that’s what they tell me at least, but I think the ones who tell me can’t or don’t know what it is), it’s also allowed me to plug Student Impact our initiative to connect students into ministry and help them feel connected in a serving community.
I think God has given me more opportunity to interact with the students this summer, plus the rest of the staff has helped make the church an environment where student involvement soley depends on the youth ministry. There is the saying it takes a village to raise a child, I think the same goes for student ministry…it’s not up to one person, it’s got to come from an entire community. We are all here to help Christ’ church grow so serving children and youth is essential.
