So we had our last Resurrection and Uprising last night and I have to say it went well. We decided to take a chance and combine high school and middle school. I made the decision because after being gone for 3 weekends in a row I wanted to give most of my ministers a break and by combining the two age groups we conducted a simpler program.
A sigh of relief comes over me with this religious education year now at an end, this was a very tough year. Taking on both high school and middle school proved to have it’s challenges but most of them unexpected. I guess I’m very optimistic when starting out on a goal or I guess you could say driven. I have these goals and I work hard to accomplish them but then I run out of steam too early.
I’m thankful, very thankful for all the leaders who remained and helped out this year. I don’t know if they knew exactly what they were getting themselves into (I certainly didn’t) but they carried this program. This Tuesday and Wednesday we have our First Serve, I hope we can provide an opportunity for these adults to really capture the vision we are trying to set forth. I’ve now completed three years in youth ministry; however, am not really sure if I’ve figured out what the secret is to inspire others to live a life for Christ. I just pray that the Lord gives me clarity, patience and understanding of what my volunteers, ministers and leaders need.
This summer should be a time for rest, relaxing and rejuvenation. Next year is going to be a blast, but I hope that the simpler approach that we take in Youth Ministry will go back to create a stronger and healthier youth ministry. I feel as if people are frustrated, thinking that I’m taking a step back by eliminating this and not doing that when really I’m pruning so that the base and foundation of youth at Church of the Nativity is stronger.
My goals for this summer in regards to my job, to create a program that makes Christ relational and leaders who want to serve for Christ.
