Spread Vision Throughout Your Ministry

I’ve been asked, “How do you know if teens are continuing in their faith after high school?” For a long time I didn’t know they answer.  I did not know for two reasons.  One, we didn’t have a measuring system. And two, I didn’t know what I was measuring.  The problem behind the problem was a lack of vision.  How did I know whether or not I was succeeding if I didn’t know what I was trying to achieve?

Your ministry needs vision in order to help students find their identity in Christ.  Vision is the destination you want to take your students, volunteers and the church.  Vision is what brings hope to your community.  Without vision the people perish and with it they thrive.  So, your job is to get it out there.  To spread the vision throughout your ministry you need to:

• Make Sure Your Leaders Know It: If you want your vision to spread you need to pass it on to more people.  Your volunteers are not help, they are your advocates.  They are there to expand your capacity.  One of the most important tools you can give them is a solid vision.

• Put It In Your Message: If you speak to teens, and adults on a regular basis you should try to weave vision into parts of your message.  It doesn’t have to be the exact wording, just make sure it’s the general gist.  Paint a picture, tell them where you want them to go and challenge them to grow.

• Live It Out:  On top of preaching vision you need to live it out.  Show people how you are trying to get there, even if the results aren’t always perfect.  When you live it out you show others that the vision is possible, even if it’s huge.  Get them on the right path by showing them how you are living it out.
