Serving in Stride

I felt like the world’s biggest kid on Friday. I was invited to go on a ride along with one of my ministers who is a police officer…actually I asked him if I could go, but it was an awesome experience. The most fun thing about Friday was going 60mph in a 30mph on the way to an accident…there was an adrenaline rush.
But it wasn’t about being a cop for one night, the reason it was awesome to hang out with this minister is because it gave me a chance to get to know him and for him to get to know me. We got to experience his world and I got to see him in his element. What really stood out to me was how much this guy enjoyed what he does for a living. It didn’t matter what the situation was, whether it was answering a question or figuring out how an accident was caused, this guy was happy to do what he was doing, you could sense the joy that he experienced.
What I learned from Friday was how important it is to do the things that God calls us to do. God calls us everyday to follow His son, “so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. (John 15:11). When we serve God we feel His joy, we feel the Love that He pours out onto us everyday.
One of my hopes is that with every new minister that wants to serve in student ministry finds the exact role where he or she can feel God’s joy. We definitely have needs in ministry, but the most important is to find the right people for the right jobs. Because when you are in the right role, it doesn’t matter if you are answering a question or figuring out a problem, you know you are supposed to be there, because you are feeling His joy.
