Risky Running

I went for a run at 8pm last night.  Something I don’t usually do, but I had to get a run in before the day was over.  It was dusk so not much light out and by the end of my run it was dark, it was exhilarating.  Another thing that made it exciting was the fact that I was wearing my Vibram five fingers which give you the sensation of running barefoot.  So basically I was running bare foot at night.  I know, I know this might not be interesting but it was risky, but felt great.  It was a little dangerous because of the risks of tripping, getting hit by a car or attacked by a wild bear, but it was great.
I’ve taken risks in my life but I don’t know if I’ll ever take the risks of the early church.  It’s amazing to think that there were people who met together, prayed together and shared life together with the risk of being put to death.  It happens in today’s world but not in this country.  I don’t know how many of our students realize this, I don’t know if it would change the way they view church.  Maybe the fact that we feel so comfortable with our “freedome of religion” is a hindrance on how we celebrate our faith and live as a church. So how do you bring fire back into the young church?  You find the adventure, you help them find the adventure that lies with following Christ.  It might not be death but there is a risk to following Christ, the payoff is amazing, you just have to embrace it.
