How To Take A Breather

I’m away this weekend and it’s nice to step out of the norm.  Sometimes we need a breather, a moment or short amount of time to take a step back and regroup.  But, to do that is easier said than done.  If we take a breather it means a chance to regroup and refocus.  If we don’t we can become overwhelmed and tired.  It might seem insignificant; however, taking a breather can go a long way.  But, if you are feeling overwhelmed and preoccupied it might be hard to find those moments, so below I have a few suggestions.  Make sure you take a breather:

  • At Lunch – Too many of us eat lunch at our desk.  If you step away you’ll not only enjoy your meal; but, realize how draining sitting in front of a computer screen can be.  Next time lunch comes around find a place to go, even if it means solitude.
  • By Planning The Vacation – The reason many of us don’t go on vacation (a real one) is because it isn’t written down.  Put it on your calendar and it becomes a reality, a hope and a dream that you can focus on when life gets a little crazy.  Granted the vacation itself is amazing; however, tangibly putting it down brings hope.
  • At The End Of The Day – Before you go home and see your family make sure you give yourself a moment to rest.  Play a song, say a quick prayer or take a quick walk, just make sure you give yourself time to turn off work and transition into a more peaceful mode.

It’s easy to get caught up in the craziness of work and realistically we can’t always get away; however, we can always breathe.  Next time life gets a little crazy take a moment to find peace and solace.  When you find breath you find rest, which helps in the long run.

How do you find moments to breathe?
