Growing up in New Jersey I used to spend the 4th of July going to a Yankee game and then traveling to Manhattan to watch firework boom over the Hudson River. A long day, but getting to downtown was worth the effort. It was truly a sight to see and hear as fireworks illuminated the night sky and their BOOM’S! shook the sky scrapers around us. It always reminded me of how my power pales in comparisons to God.
As youth ministers our job is to not only help grow young disciples but show them how to fight for their independence from sin. Along the way many of us have fallen, and many of us have triumphed for a greater good. No matter how hard we try we can’t do it on our own, we need God’s grace to power us through. This 4th of July I want to remind you that you are loved. Have no fear, God is at your side. Happy 4th of July.
