Facilitating a New Discussion

This past weekend feels like a blur…it’s early I know and I wish I could be sleeping; however, I’m about to embark on a hike with some of the boys small groups at Greenbriar Mtn. When I spoke after the first Mass at 5pm on Saturday I was really nervous, but the adrenaline lifted me through, after that it was an out of body experience. I felt as if I knew my message so well that it wasn’t me giving it but someone else, it just kind of rolled out.

After I spoke 6 times, I spoke 1 last time at our Upward Ministries Experience (Student Ministers Kickoff). My message I think could have been better, but what was great about the UME was the activity. We had about two teenagers at a table of 4-6 adults facilitating a small group. The purpose of this activity was to allow the adults to ask questions and interact with teens who wanted to interact with them. We had set questions, but really there was no hard agenda. It’s important to get the ministers comfortable with talking with teens otherwise what’s the point to student ministry?
