Engaging the Engaged

There’s a lot to reflect on regarding this past week’s programming. We launched small groups after our crowd program and initially I feel that things went well, but then again I haven’t heard feedback from ministers. One thing that I though worth noting from Uprising this past week was the how the ministers spread themselves out in the theater during the crowd portion. The students were sitting at the tables, on the sack chairs and couches and the ministers were standing at the back of the room, it was almost like they didn’t want to disturb the students, or they didn’t want the students to know that they were there.

Not only that but some of the ministers were talking with other ministers during the program. It kind of makes you wonder what we are telling the students with the way we behave during program. Don’t get me wrong, I know the ministers are excited about being there and seeing the teens, but I think we need to be more conscience of how we are engaging and participating in worship.
We need to define what people need to do whether they are serving or not. Really what I’m seeing is a lack of defined roles, which falls on me. This happens in big church too, but it really needs to start with the leader and some encouragement…then the rest will follow.
