Cracking Open His Word

I was just getting out my car today ready to start a full days of work when I ran into an older church member. She complimented me on my message from this past weekend and shared how her small group decided to look deeper into the story from the bible that I told (Book of Daniel Chapter 3: Meshach, Shadarach and Abendego ). For them it was a positive experience because as children they had grown up being told not to read the bible, especially the Old Testament. She was happy that we are doing a series (The Greatest Story Ever Told) where we are looking at the bible and seeing what it says a relationship with God should and could look like.

The one thing that struck me in our conversation is how there are now many generations of Catholics who have yet to pick up and really dive deep into the bible. For so long there was this cultural sense not to pick it up and now that needs to change. If we don’t read the bible, how do w e ever expect to get a full picture of who God is. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to share that with others, and I’m hoping that in this series more people are encouraged to pick up the bible.
If you want a list of great stories to read, here are three of my favorites:
  1. Elijah vs. Baal: 1 Kings 18:16-46
  2. Meshach, Shadrach and Abendego: Daniel 3
  3. Elisha is jeered: 2 Kings 2:23-25
