Yesterday evening I met with a couple of students at Chipotle to have a little gathering. This was the first of what I hope to be many Church at Chipotle, where we just take some time to be together as a community. There were 6 students and three adults, which made for a nice crowd, we spent the first 15 minutes grabbing and eating our massive burritos and then spent the next 30 minutes doing a lectio divina.
What was nice about the evening is that there was little distraction, so there was time for intimate fellowship and it introduced students to a new way of praying and going deeper into God’s word. One thing that is really intimidating for students is picking up and reading the bible, I know that this can help, that’s why this will be a tool we’ll add to our Habits program for Confirmation this year.
I’m happy with how this summer is going in regards to connecting with the teens, it’s a lot more organic than the past and it’s easier for me and less intimidating for me to interact with them. I don’t want to waste their time and I believe what we have for them at this church is quality.
