161 kids at Children’s Liturgy means it’s March Madness

It’s one of my most favorite times of year, three weeks of intense college basketball, cinderella stories, buzzard beaters, everything a college sports fan could hope for. But this March, it’s been all about Holy Week at Nativity. This past Friday was the premier of RISE… which is the name of the new performing arts ministry. Its mainly occupied by youth at this time but I would like to see expand. I can’t take any real credit for what happened Friday because it was all the teens who choreographed and put it together, along with Kristin and Erik’s guidance. I have to say we were a little nervous putting it together because it came off last minute to most of the church. It’s pretty funny though Kristin and some of the teens have been working on it for about 3-4 months, but I’ve been dreaming about this for at least a year.
Last year, I attended a youth conference at Willow Creek in Chicago (http://www.willowcreek.com/), where it seems they take pride in a lot of their arts. That’s always something that’s attracted me to Baltimore, and I’ve always wanted that to be a part of Nativity. The performing arts are such a great way of displaying the love of God to others. I’m hoping that this is only the beginning of something great. I guess time will tell.
